Brett Parbery has beaten his own record to take out the NSW Grand Prix and Grand Prix Freestyle Titles!
Brett tells his story…...
Last week we travelled up to Tamworth for the NSW State Championships, hosted by the hard working Tamworth Dresssage Club at the wonderful AELEC facility.
The event itself was a great success and the new AELEC facility has definitely succeeded in becoming Australia’s greatest venue.
Sam (Victory Salute) and I had a very relaxing weekend having just two tests over two days. The first test was the Grand Prix on Friday afternoon. The test for us was a good one and all but for a small mistake in the one tempi’s, was pretty well unblemished. When the dust had settled after the competition, we came out on top with 67.75%, in front of Heath Ryan with Regardez Moi in second with Rachel Sanna and Jaybee Alabaster close behind.
The Freestyle night was as usual very exciting with the top four horses scoring in excess of 70%. As I rode around the arena, Heath was receiving a very strong applause from an appreciative crowd, as he had delivered another great performance. Then, Rachels score was announced at 73.3%. I knew I had a lot to do so with that in mind, in we went….....
Sam worked the best he has worked in a long time and apart from one confusing aid from his rider, produced a beautiful mistake free test. I was annoyed as usual with my stupidity and anxiously awaited the score. Then they announced it, 76.85% and a new Australian record for a Grand Prix Freestyle. We were all very happy and as always, Sam had bailed me out again.
We agreed out back that Heath should lead the Quadrille, as he is the best at it. So the top 6 riders gave a Quadrille in appreciation to Tamworth for having us.
So in summary, the NSW State Championships were great for us in our lead up to Team selections for WEG, and a roaring success for dressage in general.
Cheers
Brett
